The mouse wheel turns the grid, and it is the gesture rather than an option. While planting the wheel is very nearly free: a crop carries
m_randomInitBuildRotation, so the game re-rolls the ghost's facing after every single placement and the yaw you scrolled to is discarded as the seed goes in. Spending the same wheel on the rows spends it on the one thing that survives the click - and scrolling back turns back, which a key that only stepped one way could not.
